Historical Fiction Characteristics of Historical Fiction
Historical fiction definition: realistic fiction that takes place in the past.
characteristics of a historical fiction story;
The story has real facts of the event imbedded into it.
The event happened 40 or more years ago.
The author writes the dialogue in the book the way they would have spoken then. e.x. if the story takes place in scotland the characters would speak with a scottish accent and with scottish slang words.
The author uses fictional characters to portray the real people who this event actually happened to. In other cases the author might use a fictional character that gets themselves into the event somehow.
Most of the story is true to be historical but not all. So some of it is fiction which makes it historical fiction.
Depending on the book there is going to be a varying amount of dialogue in the book.
There is commonly a prologue as well as an epilogue.----
